Welfare Technologies

One of the significant new high tech sectors in Finland, wellness technology, seeks solutions for maintaining health, treating illness and developing self-care systems and services.

An ageing population and increased demand for healthcare services will intensely push up demand for wellness technology in the next few years. The FinnWell technology programme, launched in year 2004 by The National Technology Agency Tekes, seeks to improve the quality of social and healthcare services and to promote business and exports in the field. Valued at some 150 million over five years, FinnWell is one of the most extensive Tekes technology programmes ever.

The Centre of Expertise for Medical and Welfare Technologies, implemented by Culminatum Ltd, promotes the formation and development of business based on interdisciplinary research in the Helsinki Region into medical science of an internationally high standard and into data and communications technology.

The Centre of Expertise promotes the formation of enterprises providing methods, equipment and services for special medical care, basic health care and voluntary health care by private individuals.
